The Skin’s Microbiome
The community of microorganisms that naturally live on the skins surface, plays a key role in protecting and maintaining healthy skin. BIOTIC BARRIER combines both prebiotics and postbiotics to support a balanced microbiome, helping skin feel calmer, stronger, and better equipped to handle daily stresses.
Pre and Postbiotics
Prebiotics nourish the beneficial bacteria on your skin, helping to maintain a healthy environment. Postbiotics are bioactive compounds produced by good bacteria that can help soothe, hydrate, and support the skin’s barrier function without needing live bacteria in the formula.
Enriched with Centella Asiatica and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline), this booster not only helps with hydration and microbiome balance but also provides a gentle peptide support that can help with comfort and smoothness.
What about probiotics?
Probiotics have become a popular topic in skincare, and while we love them in food — from kimchi and kefir to sourdough — topical skincare is a very different story.
Probiotics are live microorganisms, and maintaining their stability in a skincare formula is extremely challenging. In most cases, they do not survive the formulation process, storage, transport, or prolonged use once a product is opened. While it is technically possible under tightly controlled conditions, it is complex, costly, and rarely practical.
For this reason, many skincare products marketed as “probiotic” actually contain prebiotics and/or postbiotics instead. We believe in being transparent about what’s in our formulas. That’s why our essence is formulated with — and clearly labelled as containing — pre- and postbiotics. These ingredients can help support the skin’s microbiome and overall balance, without the stability challenges associated with live probiotics.
After cleansing, apply 2–3 pumps of BIOTIC BARRIER onto clean skin. Can be used daily, morning and/or evening. Gently smooth over the face and neck until absorbed, then follow with your serums and moisturisers as usual.
For best results, incorporate this booster early in your routine, immediately after cleansing and before heavier treatments, to support the skin’s barrier and optimise hydration.
Prebiotics (Cobiobalance Complex)
Derived from yacon juice extract rich in beta-fructooligosaccharides, prebiotics feed beneficial skin bacteria and help maintain a balanced microbiome, which supports the skin’s natural barrier and overall health.
Postbiotics (Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate)
Bioactive compounds from fermented Lactobacillus help support hydration, enhance elasticity, and soothe the skin, contributing to a calmer and more resilient complexion.
Centella Asiatica Extract
A soothing botanical known for its calming, hydrating, and regenerating benefits, helping to support barrier repair and comfort.
