Laboratory Tested for Performance
Since you can’t feel UV protection working on your skin, trust and testing are essential. MINISTRY OF DEFENCE SPF 50+ has been rigorously tested in the laboratory following EU standards (ISO 24443:2019, ISO 24443:2021, and Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009), ensuring it delivers reliable, high-level protection.
SPF Test (UVB Protection, in vivo)
The gold standard for UVB protection involves testing on volunteers. MINISTRY OF DEFENCE achieved an average SPF of 65.8, placing it in the “very high protection” category (SPF 50+). This confirms the cream effectively shields your skin from UVB radiation, the main cause of sunburn.
UVA Test (UVA-PF, in vitro)
UVA protection was tested according to ISO 24443:2021, the recommended EU standard for laboratory UVA testing. The formulation reached a UVA protection factor of 32.2, demonstrating strong coverage against UVA rays, which contribute to premature skin ageing.
About PPD:
PPD is another method for testing UVA protection. In vitro UVA-PF and PPD results are comparable, but in vitro methods are preferred in Europe because they do not require volunteers, eliminating any health risk while still providing reliable data.
Broad-Spectrum Certification
A true broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVB and UVA radiation. To qualify, a formulation must meet two criteria:
MINISTRY OF DEFENCE exceeds both standards, with a critical wavelength of 377 nm and a UVA/SPF ratio of 0.49, earning the broad-spectrum UVA badge (UVA in a circle). This confirms the cream protects effectively across the UV spectrum.
Dermatological Testing
Designed for daily wear on all skin types, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE underwent a dermatological patch test on 20 volunteers with normal, dry, oily, and combination skin. No reactions were recorded after 48 and 72 hours, confirming the formulation is very unlikely to irritate skin.
As with all skincare products, if your skin is extremely sensitive or reactive, we recommend performing a small patch test before regular use.
Apply MINISTRY OF DEFENCE as the final step in your morning skincare routine. Use a generous amount (about two finger-lengths or ¼ teaspoon) to cover the face and neck.
Apply before sun exposure and reapply throughout the day, especially after swimming, sweating, or towelling.
No sunscreen offers 100 % protection, so limit direct sun exposure where possible and reapply frequently for continuous defence.
Photostable UV Filters
A blend of five modern, photostable sun filters provides broad-spectrum UV coverage, absorbing harmful UVA and UVB rays effectively.
The European Union has one of the strictest regulations regarding UV filters. All filters are on the EU’s Allowed UV Filters list.
Centella Asiatica Extract (Gotu Kola or Cica)
A soothing botanical that supports collagen and elastin production, while its anti-inflammatory effects help calm skin and strengthen barrier function.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline)
